Porsche to Build New U.S. Headquarters

Porsche Cars North America will build a new $100 million headquarters in the Aerotropolis, a redevelopment of the former Ford Motor Co. assembly plant in Hapeville, GA south of Atlanta. Groundbreaking is planned for this fall with a move-in date of second-half 2013.

The site near the new international terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is under contract for development by Jacoby Group, headed by Atlanta developer Jim Jacoby. It will office facilities for a work force that will eventually number 400 employees, including a technical service and training center, and a customer experience center that will feature a road course to test Porsche’s high-performing vehicles.

Porsche, which has maintained its U.S. headquarters in the Atlanta metro area for 13 years, will move from its current site in Sandy Springs 18 miles north of Atlanta. The new site, chosen after a more than year-long search that also included several out-of-state locations, will bring together all major U.S. sales, after sales and financial services capacities under one roof, said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO, Porsche Cars North America.

The new headquarters will house Porsche Financial Services, Inc., and Porsche Business Services, Inc., both currently located in Lisle, IL. Other Porsche businesses will also be included in the future.

Ford’s assembly plant in Hapeville, opened in 1947, was shuttered in 2006 as part of Ford’s “The Way Forward” restructuring plan made public the same year. Jacoby Development, Inc. acquired the site in 2008 to develop Aerotropolis Atlanta, a mixed-use project of up to 6.5 million square feet.

Keeping Porsche in the area is a big win for the area, said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

“The Porsche crest will be a perfect welcome sign to greet the hundreds of thousands of visitors and guests that land each day at the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta,” Reed said.

“It also sends a strong message to our dealers and our customers that we believe in the strength of the U.S. market and its future growth,” von Platen added. “At the same time, this decision demonstrates our commitment to the state of Georgia and the city of Atlanta to remain a vital part of this vibrant region.”

Porsche Cars North America (PCNA), the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche sports cars, the Cayenne SUV and Panamera Gran Turismo, sold over 25,000 cars last year, up 33% over 2009. Established in 1984, it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

PEP EXCLUSIVE: Arnell Ignacio denies allegation that his Porsche is "hot car"

strongPEP EXCLUSIVE: /strongArnell Ignacio denies allegation that his Porsche is a hot car

Carlos Pormento that his Porsche is a “hot car.” Pormento is the legal counsel of the three patrol officers sued by Ignacio for “grave misconduct, robbery, and intimidation.”

(CLICK HERE to read related story,)

NOT A HOT CAR.

PURSUING THE CASE.

Funchal Equity Partners Fund launches in Brazil to Fund Listed Companies

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, May 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Cayman Islands based Equity Partners Fund SPC has established a new segregated portfolio which will conduct business under the name Funchal Equity Partners Fund to make investments into Brazil. Banif Banco de Investimento (Brazil) S.A. has been engaged to conduct valuations of potential transactions and to assist in the hiring of companies that can conduct due diligence should it be required.

Funchal Equity Partners Fund generally looks to invest amounts from $50 million up to $500 million in Brazilian listed companies with consistent trading volumes for a variety of activities including working capital, acquisitions and other growth opportunities.

Fund spokesperson Alex Chaia says the fund focuses on equity investments in public companies as well as private companies that will be listed on a securities exchange within six months of a funding commitment.

“Unlike hedge funds which have significant regulatory burdens exposing their investors to higher risks, Funchal Partners Fund is able to act quickly, is more flexible when it comes to structuring an investment and has less regulatory burdens,” Mr. Chaia says.

“The fund has no outside investors and is considered a private fund run by its principals, similar to a merchant bank that invests its own capital and as such it is seeking capital appreciation through the identification and funding of liquid growth companies.

“The fund will approach various companies such as manufacturing, construction, professional services, healthcare and finance who are all looking for growth or acquisition funding which is difficult to find given current global economic conditions.”

The fund’s investment guidelines, apart from a company’s size and liquidity, require them to have exceptional management and long-term sustainable growth opportunities with the potential to achieve significant milestones over a developmental period.

“While applicants should expect to be able to meet our due diligence requirements, our funding arrangements are much simpler than many other avenues such as rights issues and other underwritten issues,” Mr. Chaia says.

“Ultimately once a company satisfies our requirements we send proposed investment terms and explain the steps required for the company to ultimately obtain the requested funding.

“In volatile and uncertain equity markets this pre-qualification and pre-agreed funding arrangement is superior in most circumstances.”
